Floating Foot Progress Report 2 Presented by Erin
Floating Foot Progress Report 2 Presented by : Erin Carroll, Cory Chisholm, James Comeau and Carlee Mac. Innis
Floating Foot Recap ● An alternative to the crutch based off the design of a leg brace o o Freeing use of hands More mobility Easier to use Comfortable
Progress ● Ordered different brace than previously stated o o Original was out of stock Ordering Complications ● Began force calculations ● Began Inventor model ● Discussed design of boot with Steve Mac. Donald
Don. Joy Telescoping Cool ELS Post-Op Brace ● Similar to previous brace in both design and cost ● Easily able to size and custom fit for patient ● Brace expected to arrive this week
Cost Breakdown Knee Brace Number of Parts Aluminum Rods Rubber sole Aluminum Sheeting 1 2 1 1 Cost of part 230. 00 7. 45 10. 00 5. 00 Total Cost of Part 230. 00 14. 90 10. 00 5. 00 Total Cost: $259. 90
The Boot ● Discussed the possibility of using wood with tread instead of rubber for the sole ● Possibility of cutting out grooves in the aluminum for grip and not using any rubber or wood ● 5 -Bar Tread Plate
Connection Options ● Connecting Boot and Brace ● Clevis pin
Materials ● Steve Mac. Donald has provided us with 6061 -T 6 Aluminum for the boot ● Excellent all purpose alloy, having high strength and good corrosion resistance.
Force Diagrams ● Joints A, B, and E are subjected to double shearing stresses
Goals for Final Design ● Complete construction ● Test & analyze walking with the Floating Foot and determine how it affects gait. ● Organize data into a spreadsheet. ● Conclude whether this design measures up better than regular crutches.
