Airbus position on HUD l Previous generation HUDs were operationally limited l Latest generation HUDs carry essential improvements: 4 significantly larger field of view (35 x 26) 4 better quality of the collimated symbols 4 availability of LCD providing – greater flexibility in the display of symbols – possibility to implement new features (e. g. EVS) 4 increased capability of HUDC. HUD - Airbus Policy © AIRBUS S. All rights reserved. Confidential and proprietary document. 7

HUD and Airbus Cockpit philosophy l The HUD, as a complementary system in the cockpit, must be properly integrated within this environment so as: 4 to allow a coherent operation with and without HUD 4 to prevent any major difference/contradiction between HUD and HDD data 4 to prevent any potential confusion/misinterpretation of symbols HUD - Airbus Policy © AIRBUS S. HUD implementation rules l The HUD has to be properly integrated hardware wise and operation wise within the cockpit l The HUD has to be defined so as to take maximum benefit from its intrinsic characteristic : symbols versus external cues l Whenever close to the ground or obstacles, favour external cues, visual acquisition with proper declutter function HUD - Airbus Policy © AIRBUS S.
