Part 2: Who else should you meet? Personal Tutors and module convenors • You will all have at least one, likely two, Personal Tutors • Important to build relationship with PT for academic guidance, and later for references • Some of you will be invited to group ‘Academic Tutoring’ sessions, others may have online “office hour” chats • Your Personal Tutor is not your only point of support … • Also know and contact your module convenors – we want to talk to you! • www. exeter. ac. uk/fch
Where are your Personal Tutors & module convenors? Subject department inductions/welcomes • You will also mostly have Subject department introductions this week • They will tell you specifically about studying your subject(s) with them • Go to these or engage with them! • Students on a Pathway will not have a specific welcome talk for that – because it is a bespoke path involving several subjects - but Subject departments will have a talk • www. humanities. exeter. ac. uk/flc

Foreign Language Centre • The Foreign Language Centre (FLC) offers language modules as part of your degree or as evening classes • If you study at least 60 credits in one language, this language can be added to your degree title, e. g. ‘with proficiency in’ • Beginners to advanced levels • British Sign Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish etc • Speak to Professor Sonia Cunico about taking up a language option • www. humanities. exeter. ac. uk/flc

Expectations about flexibility Do expect to take all core (compulsory) modules Don’t expect all optional modules to be always available Don’t expect to change any of your subjects after the start of year 2 Don’t expect to study subjects other than your 2 or 3 UCAS choices FCH has a few subject basics, rules and standards to ensure your knowledge and qualification is deep, reliable and acceptable after graduation • they are here: “studying” > “current students” > rules box • • •
Expectations about communication • Do tell us if you have problems or questions! • Do read all our emails! • Research core and optional module choices on the website: know your subjects’ rules in advance: use module ELE pages, staff emails and office hours • Do expect to contact multiple staff across subjects for advice – there will be some complexities because your programme is unique

Learn about submissions: ELE, BART etc • The Exeter Learning Environment (ELE, “ellie”) supports you with information and teaching on all your modules; some of you may use it to submit work • Some of you will submit work via BART and turnitin – submission processes will vary by department and submission type, so make sure you check ELE sites and know what to do • Further instructions about the content of will be given to you via your module convenors • www. humanities. exeter. ac. uk/flc
