Just One Power Supply for all needs l l Do you need more current? Do you need a wider operating temperature range? FLEX! fits all applications with Flex 17024… We can obtain more current … l 7. 5 A at 40 °C … Or we can obtain a higher operating temperatures till 70°C with l 5 A at 60 °C l Power Boost 7, 5 A (3 minutes)

Higher Current / Power 100% Power 60°C FFLEX! supplies 50% more permanent current in applications at 40°C. u. During transients FLEX! can supply up to 100% more current than rated. As a consequence it is not necessary to step up the size of the power supply to meet peak load requirements. 150% Power at 60°C

Easy parallel for double power l l l FLEX! 280 e 500 can be easily connected in parallel to increase available power. They don’t need a centesimal adjustment, just use a tester to regulate the first and than the second. Just remove the jumper and it is done. Double Power Remove Jumpers

“Power Good” Output voltage status control FLEX! devices 170 - 280 and 500 W

“Power Good” Output voltage status control FLEX! devices 170 - 280 and 500 W are equipped with Power Good relais contact l l The Power Good contact switches from NC to NA when the output voltage goes below -10% of rated (20 Vdc at rated 24 Vdc). Over Load Situation. It is particulary useful as monitor, in redundancy applications

1 st protection mode “Hiccup” HICCUP (automatic restart): This is the default factory setting

1 st protection mode “Hiccup” HICCUP (automatic restart): This is the default factory setting of all FLEX! units In case of short-circuit or overloading, the output current is interrupted. The device tries again to reestablish output voltage and normal condition about every 2 second till the problem is cleared. Jumper position

2 nd protection mode “Manual reset” l MANUAL RESET (manual restart by operator): In

2 nd protection mode “Manual reset” l MANUAL RESET (manual restart by operator): In case of shortcircuit or overloading, the output current is interrupted. In order to restart the output it is necessary to interrupt the input circuit for about 1 minute. l This protection mode is particulary suggested in applications where safety procedures require that reset be carried out by an authorized physical person. Jumper position

3 rd protection mode “Continuous Out Mode” Short Circuit Over load l FFOLD BACK

3 rd protection mode “Continuous Out Mode” Short Circuit Over load l FFOLD BACK In case of a shortcircuit or overload this protection mode does not shut down the output but reduce the voltage and regulate current. l WWhen a short circuit or an overload occur the FLEX! unit output can accept up to 1, 5 times rated current (In) at 60°C (in some units even more). The output voltage is gradually reduced till almost zero as the current increase. In this mode the unit never switches off. Jumper position

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation l l l The regulation EN 60204 -1

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation l l l The regulation EN 60204 -1 addresses safety issues in industrial applications where power supply to a load is delivered by electronic stabilized power supply devices. Safety in case of overload is a specific focus of the norm. Particularly in case the load is subdivided in more circuits with individual overload protection devices The main requirement of the norms is that the power supply must be able to withstand a current at least 50% higher than its rated value for 1 hr, while at the same time keeping the output voltage within -10% of rated value

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation Important, immediate and practical consequence l Conforming to

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation Important, immediate and practical consequence l Conforming to EN 60204 -1 requirements implies a … l If the power supply does not meet the requirements … …change in circuit design criteria …it is no longer allowed to use a power supply whose rated current is the same of rated load demand

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation l l In choosing the protection devices for

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation l l In choosing the protection devices for a selective protection of the output loads conforming with EN 60204 -1, a good safety margin is needed between thermal overload threshold of each protection device and the rated current of the power supply. This because if they are too close, the power supply will switch off before the protection device has the time to sense the overload. There are only two possible solutions: l increase the size of the power supply to achieve the required margin (more expensive) l or use devices designed specifically for this conditions, as FLEX!

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation l l With FLEX! it is possible to

FLEX! Meets EN 60204 -1 Regulation l l With FLEX! it is possible to have 50% more current than the rated value at 60°C. In this way FLEX! guarantee the selective protection of individual output lines In x 1. 5 Example in previous slide: Flex 28024 A can supply a continuous load of 10 A (@ 40°C). In case of overload, it will deliver up to 15 A and keep the output voltage within -10% of rated (as EN 60204 -1 requires). This allows to choose a magneto-thermic switch with a tripping threshold set within 50% above rated current of the power supply. In case of overload on one of the output lines, the magneto-thermic switch protecting that line will have the time to intervene, thereby assuring a continuing power supply to the other line (PLC) of the circuit.
