Animal Facts Description Diet Lots of flamingos are pale pink but some of them are light blue, blue and white. They grow up between 4 to 5 feet tall. Flamingos are not heavy! They only weigh about 9 pounds! Flamingos warm feathers are perfect for heavy wind. Flamingos are omnivores. They eat fish, plankton, algae, krill, shrimp, and insects. A pic showing your animal. Movement Flamingos fly, walk, and swim. Sometimes, flamingos nap on one leg! Flamingos have a very good balance. Flamingos are really good swimmers, but mostly they wade in shallow ends in the water. Wading is like walking, but in the water.
Habitat 1) Flamingos live mostly in Africa since it’s very warm. But they also live in South America, west of Asia and south of North America. They mostly live near the south since it’s close to the equator. 2) It is very wet and warm where they live, a lot of wind and storms too. 3) Flamingos have long legs for wading deep in the water, when a predator is near, they can wade to escape from their predators!
Life Cycle Flamingos are born by eggs. Flamingos can only have one baby at a time. It takes 27 to 31 days for a flamingo to be born. The special name for the babies are called “chicks”. Mother flamingos are pale pink in color. The parents take turns with the egg until it hatches. Adults live in groups called flocks. There are thousands and millions of flamingos in flocks! Flamingo adults usually live up to 20 to 30 years. Some may live up to 50! That’s old!
Animal Interactions Flamingos protect themselves by staying close to their flocks. When they see a predator, they stick their heads in mud. The predator will be fooled.
