QUESTION Out of water, nothing, soap, water with aspirin, water with plant food, and water with salt which one will help the carnation/flower live the longest.

HYPOTHESIS Our hypothesis is that salt water will keep the flower alive the longest.

HYPOTHESIS Our hypothesis is that salt water will keep the flower alive the longest.

Materials 1. 6 flowers 2. Water 3. Salt 4. Aspirin 5. Soap 6. Plant food 7. 6 cups/cartons 8. Measuring cups 9. Graph paper 10. Ruler

PROCEDURE 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. We gather all materials

PROCEDURE 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. We gather all materials We need rinse the milk cartons that we recycled The new will label each milk carton with each mixture Measure out all of the different materials such as water, aspirin, salt, plant food, etc… We will use 1 cup of water for all plants we will use a tablespoon of plant food, aspirin, and salt. Then at the same time we will put each plant into the mixtures Each day we will measure the plant and report any data that we see After seven days of graphing we will see which flower is the most alive We will see if our hypothesis is correct.

Journal Findings During the experiment on day 1 we noticed that all flowers were fresh and alive with no drooping or dying. We left the flowers over the weekend so on day 4 when we got back we noticed some of the flowers were dying but cup 2 and cup 4 were still alive and growing. Cups 1, 3, 5, and 6 were still alive but they were drooping and starting to die. Day 5 we noticed that all flowers had died and changed colors except 2 and 4. Cup 6 had turned a brown color and had died the most. On Day 6, the flower in Cup 4 had gained 2 leaves. Finally on day 7 cup 2 seemed like it bloomed more and had grown 1 centimeter in height and cup 4 had bloomed to and grown 1 and ½ centimeter.

RESULTS Growth of Carnations in Mixtures Our result of what mixture works the best

RESULTS Growth of Carnations in Mixtures Our result of what mixture works the best is water with plant food because it grew the most with 1. 5 centimeters. Even though cup 2 was taller it did not grow as much as the plant food with water. 2 1 +1 cm +1. 5 cm 0 -1 -2 -3 -2 cm -4 Growth in Centimeters -4 cm -2 cm

CONCLUSION Our hypothesis was incorrect because the salt water flower did not live the longest. It actually died completely on day 5. it continued to droop, die, and change colors. If we did this experiment again we would use different cups/cartons and maybe different flowers. If we put less of the materials or watered them everyday the results would have been different.
