Fixtures Classification of Fixtures are normally classified by the type of machine on which they are used – Milling fixture – Latch-radius fixture –. . .

Jig and Fixture Design • Jig: A device that holds the work and locates the path of the tool. • Fixture: A device fixed to the worktable of a machine and locates the work in an exact position relative to the cutting tool.

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 1. Plate fixtures • Simplest and popular form of fixture • Made form flat plate • Varity of clamps

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 2. Angle-plate fixtures • Used for machine the parts at precise angle

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 2. Angle-plate fixtures • Used for machine the parts at precise angle

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 3. Vise-jaw fixtures • Used for machining small parts • Standard vise-jaws are replaced with jaws that are formed to fit the part

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 4. Indexing fixtures • Very similar to indexing jigs

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 4. Indexing fixtures • Used for machining parts that have machined details every spaced

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures 5. Multi-station fixtures and duplex fixtures • For high-speed, high-volume production runs, where the machining cycle must be continuous

Fixtures: Types of Fixtures Profiling fixtures • To guide tools for machining contours that machine cannot normally follow

Fixture components • Fixture base – Fixture components and the workpiece are usually located on a base, which is securely fastened to the milling machine table.

Fixture components • Clamps – Clamps counteract forces from the feed of the table and rotation of the cutter.

Fixture components • Set blocks – Cutter set blocks are mounted on the fixture to properly position the milling cutter in relation to the workpiece.
