Electronic Folders n Electronic Libraries n n Folders are a subset of an electronic Library n n Drawers for an “electronic file cabinet” Files are a subset of a Folder The desktop is the launch point to get to these “electronic file cabinets” and “electronic folders and files” © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 5

Electronic Folders Opening n n Double-click the primary (left) mouse button or single-click on the small triangle The “Documents” Library contains frequently accessed folders © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 7

Electronic Files Creating a File n n Opening any program will start a new file A file can also be created from an existing open file by going to the File tab and selecting “New” © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 18

Electronic Files Save or Save As? n Save function keeps a copy of the file n n If the file is updated, Save overwrites the original file with all changes Save As does not change the original file, but rather, makes a copy of the current file n n The file is saved in the computer with another name The file is placed in the same folder by default, but can be placed in another folder, if so desired © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 21

Electronic Files Save Soft Button n The Save button, in this example, is the final step in storing the file CLASS TIME © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 27
Electronic Files Closing a File n When a user completes their work, the file is closed n If the user did not perform any Save functions prior to this point, a window appears n n n “Save” – updates to the file are saved and the file closes “Don’t Save” – discards recent updates and the file remains unchanged, which then closes “Cancel” – aborts the “Close” function © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 28
Electronic Files Adding Files to a Folder n There is more than one way to add files to a folder or Library, for example: n Saving a new file to a folder or Library as previously shown in this section, OR n Dragging a file from one library or folder to another, which uses the same process as moving folders © Copyright, NECA 2014, All Rights Reserved 29
