First Peoples Principles of Learning By Ting
CONTENTS What? So what? What next?
What is First Peoples Principles Learning? Option 01 supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits, and the ancestors. Option 02 holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential, and relational (focused on connectedness, on reciprocal relationships, and a sense of place) Option 03 involves recognizing the consequences of one’s actions. involves generational roles and responsibilities. involves patience and time. involves recognizing that some knowledge is sacred and only shared with permission and/or in certain situations. Option 04 recognizes the role of indigenous knowledge. is embedded in memory, history, and story. requires exploration of one’s identity. Inherent in the First Peoples Principles of Learning is the concept and philosophy of the interconnectedness of life and learning within daily life. Thus, the principles should not be seen as a list of criteria or standards to be met in the curriculum, but rather, a way of understanding the world and perspectives through the lens of our First Peoples of British Columbia. (SET-BC, 2019). The inclusion of Aboriginal perspectives and knowledge is based on the understanding that Aboriginal perspectives and knowledge are a part of the historical and contemporary foundation of BC and Canada. An important goal in integrating Aboriginal perspectives into curricula is to ensure that all learners have opportunities to understand respect their own cultural heritage as well as that of others (SET-BC, 2019).
Why is First Peoples Principles Learning important to me? 02 It makes me to take the well-being as my learning goal. 03 01 It helps encourages me to find where I come from and who I am. 04 It let me know that I should take response to my family and the community. It helps me to know the history and connect the history to my learning experience.
What is my future plan? 01 Learning the history of the First Peoples. 02 01 Finding the connection between me and the First Peoples Principles Learning 02 03 03 04 I need to understand myself more fully so that I can find my value and strength 04 To be well-being. For example, the workshops in Education Success Center. I went to some workshops and I listened their presentations. I learned new knowledge or writing skills from those presentations. Then I use these skills and knowledge in my assignments, so I can improve my work better. I think this is a kind of supporting the well- being self. At the same time, one of the ai
