WHERE WE ARE NOW LOADING. . Architecture • Service logic outside NSO • Vendor abstraction part of NSO • Input parameters collected north of NSO Implementation • Focused on Zero-Touch Fulfilment of IP Services • Modelled various RFSes as building blocks • Modelled a few CFSes • Lots of work north of NSO to adapt bespoke solutions to automation paradigm Production 9 • Several NSO instances in production • Connected to large parts of the IP network and used to collect network inventory data and discover topology 2/23/2021 PUBLIC

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT, THE HARD WAY START SIMPLE Greenfield, if possible. This supports initial learning curve, sets the foundation for the new systems, highlights initial challenges and needs. PEOPLE AND PROCESSES Changing established processes is not always welcomed. Involve all the people who’s work is about to be touched by automation, they will be more open and help. CLEAR SERVICE DEFINITION Taking years of service development, updates, practices and ambiguities and putting that into a clear product documentation is one of the hardest tasks. 12 2/23/2021 PUBLIC

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT, THE HARD WAY EMPLOY PROJECT MANAGEMENT Implementing service orchestration touches

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT, THE HARD WAY EMPLOY PROJECT MANAGEMENT Implementing service orchestration touches on many aspects of the business, end to end, and it needs strong project management to succeed REACH FOR SUPPORT FROM THE TOP Rebuilding service definitions, learning developing skills, iterating on service models is time consuming. The staff needs to have the right priorities from the top. DEVELOP IN-HOUSE Preparing a service model and deploying it is not a one-time exercise. It will have to be done many times, prepare your staff to be able to do it. 13 2/23/2021 PUBLIC

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT, THE HARD WAY AUTOMATED TESTING Employ automated testing early on, even with a handful of tests – it will be the seed for much more and save lots of time later NATURAL KEYING Especially on the resource facing services. It allows for easy reference and shared configuration of resources, independent of client facing service keying. CISCO CAN HELP Their experience is valuable, the provided examples are useful and concentrated. Best practice guides and dummy examples could help even more. 14 2/23/2021 PUBLIC
