Background 2016 • First discussed the creation of a First Nation Directors of Education Association at 2016 First Nations Directors of Education Forum (Ottawa, ON) 2017 • AFN continued the conversation with First Nations Directors of Education at the 2017 AFN First Nations Directors of Education Forum (Tsuut’ina, AB). • Chiefs-in-Assembly passed AFN resolution 15/2017 Therefore be it resolved that the Chiefs-in-Assembly: 1. Support the creation of a national First Nation Directors of Education Association 2. Direct the AFN to work with the CCOE to define and outline the next steps required in creating a First Nation Directors of Education Association, including seeking funding and establishing an organizational structure. www. fneaa. ca 2

Background 2018 • The 2018 AFN First Nations Directors of Education Forum (Gatineau, QC)

Background 2018 • The 2018 AFN First Nations Directors of Education Forum (Gatineau, QC) hosted two sessions to discuss the potential services that an Association would provide for directors, managers, leaders and administrators in First Nations education. • The AFN Education Sector received funding from ISC to support the hiring of staff for the implementation of the a newly formed education association. • The First Nations Education Administrators Association (FNEAA) was officially named and the process to incorporate the FNEAA and establish not-for-profit and charity status has been initiated. • Planning for an Interim Advisory Committee to guide the initial phase of creating the FNEAA. 2019 • Panel and workshops to discuss the FNEAA during the 2019 AFN First Nations Directors of Education Forum (Halifax, NS) www. fneaa. ca 3

Interim Advisory Committee Objective: • To provide support and guidance in the initial phase of creating the First Nations Education Administrators Association (FNEAA). Outcomes: • The role of the Interim Advisory Committee is to provide advice and recommendations about: • By-laws for a not-profit corporation. • Scope of membership services that the FNEAA could provide (i. e. professional development; education systems development support; and conferences, seminars and events). • Core competencies to design courses, workshops and a certification program. • Communications strategy. www. fneaa. ca 9
