Overview of Stages Interphase Cytokinesis Prophase Telophase Metaphase Anaphase
Interphase Most of the cell’s life is spent in this phase of growth and development
Interphase Chromosomes are copied and cell prepares for division
Prophase Nuclear membrane disappears
Prophase Centrioles appear
Prophase Centrioles begin to move to opposite end of the cell
Prophase Spindle fibers form between the poles
Metaphase Chromatids attach to the spindle fibers
Metaphase Chromatids line up in the center of the cell
Anaphase Centromeres divide
Anaphase Chromatids separate and begin to move to opposite end of the cell
Telophase 2 new nucleii form
Telophase Nuclear Membrane pinches
Cytokinesis Cell Membrane moves inward to create two daughter cells each with its own nucleus and identical chromosomes
division Nuclear membrane disappears. Centrioles appear and begin to move to opposite end of the cell Spindle fibers form between the poles Chromatids attach to the spindle fibers and line up in the center of the cell Centromeres divide Chromatids separate and begin to move to opposite ends of the cell Two new nuclei form.
