What are 1 st Impressions Influenced by?
1. Your Values e. g. if you value someone who works hard then you may have a poor impression of someone who doesn’t have a job.
2. Your Biases e. g. If you think people shouldn’t try to draw attention to themselves, you might not think highly of someone who has coloured his hair purple.
3. Your Cultural Background This can affect things like personal space, handshake, etc.
Do your homework. Learn everything you can about the employer and their company. It can impress an employer when you talk about their company and why you want to join it. Tip #1 for a Great Interview When you have done your homework, you'll be more conscious of how you can relate your skills to the job. The employer has no time to figure out how your skills can be relevant to their business. . you need to tell him how.
Be prepared to answer the employer’s questions. These questions will determine if you are right for the job. Tip #2 When you talk about your strengths, your accomplishments etc…speak with excitement and passion. It helps to set you apart from those that go with a well-rehearsed speech. Remember that the employer is also assessing your personality. They ask themselves “Will this person fit well with the rest of my staff? ”
Be prepared to ask questions. Go with 2 or 3 questions. The questions you ask could impress the employer…it will certainly set you apart from the rest. Tip #3 Remember you are trying to get on the shortlist. Again you have to do your homework in order to ask the smart questions.
