PURPOSE • An ARAC Subcommittee is looking at revising AC 25 -135 (Powerplant Installation and Propulsion System Component Fire Protection Test Methods, Standards, and Criteria) • Develop a means to comply with the AC in order to evaluate various test specimens to determine whether they may be classified as: – Fireproof – Fire Resistant • Determine the feasibility of the testing methods performed.

Current Proposed Procedure • CALIBRATION OF THERMOCOUPLES • Preheat Burner for 2 minutes. •

Current Proposed Procedure • CALIBRATION OF THERMOCOUPLES • Preheat Burner for 2 minutes. • Place Flame on Thermocouples for 90 seconds. • All Thermocouples must read 2000°F +/- 150°F.

Current Proposed Procedure • BURNER TEST • • Preheat Flame for 2 minutes. Place Flame for 16 minutes on the various test specimens: • 4140 Steel (reference material) 1. 15 -5 PH Steel 2. Titanium 6 A 1 -4 V 3. Inconel 718 4. Aluminum 7075 Record time temperature data at the 0% , 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% positions of the diameter. Determine the loss of Ultimate Strength at the 5 minute and 15 minute intervals.

Status • TESTING • • Three out of the five material selected have been tested according to the prescribed procedure (4130 Steel, 15 -5 PH Steel, and Titanium 6 A 1 -4 V). Available test data is currently been analyzed (reference material) • PROCEDURE • ARAC Subgroup is currently looking at the data to determine if a test protocol change is required.
