Facts and Figures – Aging well, Specialised Housing and fire In 2017/18 there were 334 fire-related fatalities and 7, 290 non-fatal casualties in fires in England. What is NFCC: Fire Safety In Specialised Housing Guidance NFCC – National Fire Chiefs Council • The professional voice of the UK Fire and Rescue Service • Drives improvement and development throughout the UK Fire and Rescue Services • 340 page document • Provides recommendations that are designed to protect residents of specialised housing from fire. • Recommendations relate to various forms of sheltered housing, extra care housing and also supported living • Its available fro free from the NFCC website – but also as a hard copy for £ 25 + VAT
What is Specialised Housing Sheltered Housing Self contained residential accommodation for older people, and where some form of assistance is available at all times, though not necessarily from persons on the premises. Extra Care Housing any housing of a similar nature to sheltered housing (though sometimes including residents with disabilities that are not age related), but with managed on-site care and support service, commonly on a 24 -hour basis. Supported Living Housing (excluding sheltered housing and extra care housing) designed for vulnerable people with common characteristics, living as part of a community with support that is normally, but not necessarily, provided on a 24 -hour basis.

This training package is designed for use by: • Domiciliary care workers • Carers • Adult Social Care staff • Staff in any other organisation involved in care of people in their own homes To enable Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service to protect vulnerable adults living in the community from the risks of fire.
Berkshire Statistics 2017/18 • • Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended 374 accidental dwelling fires 147 of these were cooking related =39% 135 were electrical incidents =36% 19 were caused by smoking =5% 73 other causes including heaters, open fires, candles and sunlight =20%

Multi Agency Referral Form On receipt of this referral RBFRS will attempt to make direct contact with the individual (or joint visit nominee as appropriate). If the visit is declined or we cannot make contact with the individual we will pass this information back to the referring agency.
