Fionia Fyn è l’isola che ha dato i natali a Hans Christian Andersen e dove la visita del museo e della casa natale dedicati all’autore permettono di entrare nel suo magico mondo. Odense è una delle città più antiche della Danimarca ed il centro con le viuzze e le case del ‘ 500, permette di rivivere l’atmosfera magica e ci si aspetta di vedere i personaggi delle fiabe spuntare in ogni angolo: e la magia accade quando si percorre in bicicletta il parco sul fiume che ospita negli angoli più suggestivi , le statue di questi personaggi. Il tour dell’isola è facile e rilassante, in un paesaggio verde ed intatto sospeso tra terra e acqua: gli stagni, i fiumi con le case col tetto di paglia dell’interno lasciano il posto alle case dei pescatori delle pittoresche cittadine sulla costa dove il mare ed i colori delle facciate e dei fiori con la luce particolare del nord creano panorami unici. Per immergersi nell’atmosfera marinara si visita poi, con un breve tratto in traghetto, la perla dell’arcipelago, la piccola isola di Aero, immutata nel tempo con le casette del ‘ 600 dai vivaci colori. SVENDBORG city, Fyns amtskommune (county commune), southern Funen Island, Denmark, on Svendborg Sound. Chartered in 1253, it was often plundered in the Middle Ages because of its easily accessible coastal location, and it suffered in the religious wars of the 16 th and 17 th centuries. The 13 thcentury Romanesque-style Church of Sankt Nikolaj survives, and the local museum is in a 16 th-century timbered house. An important shipping centre and resort, Svendborg has shipbuilding yards, breweries, tobacco factories, and flour mills. There is a folk high school for seamen (1906) to the northeast. a rint mail SS o n Visiting the Artist's Workshops--Although all Danish islands have devotees who spend much of their lives in lonely isolation creating arts and crafts, Langeland seems to have more than most. Many are drawn to Langeland because they view it as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Many of their workshops welcome visitors. Check with the tourist office in Rudkøbing for detailed directions and guidance, whether you're seeking glass, ceramics, or whatever. Although there are some addresses to visit in the capital, many of the finest galleries are farther out on the island. In Rudkøbing itself, you'll find one of the best collections of ceramics -- certainly the most imaginatively conceived -- at the studio of Lizzi and Leif Larsen, Sidsel Bagersgade 10 (tel. 62 -51 -4153). If you take our tour of North Langeland, you can combine sightseeing with your search for crafts. Many artists are centered at Tranekær. The finest art studio at Tranekær is Galleri Benedict, Snødevej 9 (tel. 62 -55 -10 -03). Some of the most elegant and graceful ceramics made on Langeland are found at the Tranekær studio of Poul Erik Eliasen, Strandbyvej 3 (tel. 62 -59 -15 -59). The cozy place has over the years built up a circle of regular customers. This half-timbered house lies in Strandby, right outside Tranekær, deep in a forest. The house is painted red and is hard to miss. Just follow Strandbyvej south of Tranekær. The calm of this potter's home is reflected in the ceramics, which in shape and decoration have a rigidly defined but very harmonious expression. Lothals in the far north is the equal of Tranekær for the quality of its artisans. For the best art, you can visit Galleri Sharp, Stoense Udflyttervej 25 (tel. 62 -55 -25 -25). If you go to the very northern tip of Langeland, you'll come upon the studio of Karin and Erling Heerwagen, Hovvej 52 (tel. 62 -55 -12 -63), at Hov. These artisans turn to nature for their inspiration and produce ceramics that you may want to pass on to the next generation. Here you enter an imaginative universe. Whether big or small, you'll find the same friendly expression on their frogs, birds, fish, and even in their ceramic flowering apple trees. If you're heading into south Langeland, you'll find an equal number of workshops that welcome visitors. At Humble, Brangstrup Stentøj, Vagebjergvej 4 (tel. 62 -57 -28 -20), has the widest collection of ceramics and Danish glass. At the southern tip of the island, in the port of Bagenkop, artists proliferate. One of the finest of them is Ulla Keramik, Daemningen 1 (tel. 62 -56 -12 -98), a ceramics workshop with elegant offerings. There is a boutique attached.
