History of Fingerprinting Sir Frances Galton – wrote a book on finger prints and categorized them in to three main groups. Sir Edward Henry- developed a method of using fingerprints to identify that is still used by the FBI today

Fingerprint Patterns Three main categories with three sub groups. Loops Arches Whorls

Loops 2 sub groups Radial Loops- if a loop opens up in the direction of the thumb. Ulnar Loop- if the loop opens up in the direction of the little finger

Arches 2 sub groups Plain arches- gentle sloping ridge. Tented arches- ridges with steep vertical slope.

Whorls 4 sub groups Plain whorl- Double whorl- ying yang

Whorls Central pocket whorl- looks like A loop with a pocket Accidental whorl. A catch all group of misfits
