Fingerprint Poetry • A fingerprint is a very personal thing that can show unique a person is. • Fingerprint poetry plays on the shape of a fingerprint by twisting the lines you write into that shape. • Your fingerprint poetry will be DUE MONDAY!

Example • If you don’t keep your words and sentences close together, you could lose the shape of your fingerprint and it could start to look like a jumble of words!

Fingerprint Poetry • GET REALLY CREATIVE • • Use COLOR if you want! • • Incorporate pictures in-between or behind your words • • Use exciting, creative words – your words make you who you are! • • Incorporate senses (what you see, hear, smell, taste, feel) • • Change the size of your writing (or use capital letters) to make certain words POP out

• • • • Fingerprint Poetry IDEAS FOR WRITING • What makes you unique, different from everyone else? • Tell an interesting or inspiring story from your past • Tell a terrifying or sad story from your past • Tell about a moment or decision that changed your life forever • Write about a day in your life. What does it look like from beginning to end? • Talk about your dreams and plans for the future. How will you live your life? How do you want to be remembered? What will be your legacy or ‘mark’ on the world? • What are you most proud of? • Do you have any special abilities or talents? • What would a ‘perfect’ life look like to you? Share your fantasy. • If you could go back and change one thing in the past, what you would do and why? • If you had an infinite amount of time and/or money, how would you use it? • What are your core beliefs? What matters most in life?

Open Mic Presentations • This performance is REQUIRED on MONDAY/TUESDAY. (55 Points!!) • You must perform 1 original poem written by you in a performance that is approx. 1 minute in length. • You can receive 35 pts. of EXTRA CREDIT if you perform a 2 nd poem written by you. • If you want to earn extra credit, you must sign up IN ADVANCE! (there will be no extra credit given the day of performances unless you previously signed up!) • It doesn’t matter how much you whine!

You will be graded on: SPEECH • Posture- stand up straight, don’t sway • Volume- loud enough for all to hear • Speed of voice- not too slow, not too fast • Eye Contact- look at your audience • Original Piece- written by you during the poetry unit • Presentation approx. 1 minute • Overall Presentation

You will be graded on: AUDIENCE MEMBER • Facing the speaker • Making eye contact • Being respectful (not talking, looking at electronics, etc. ) • Clapping appropriately

Practice! • This weekend, make sure you practice reading a poem of your choice in preparation for the performance on MONDAY & TUESDAY (Block Day!) • If you want EXTRA CREDIT, be sure to sign up on the extra credit list! • Keep in mind, your FINGERPRINT POETRY is due MONDAY!
