FINE ART: Why Art? Courage : Art allows you to be innovative. It provides

FINE ART: Why Art? Courage : Art allows you to be innovative. It provides you with skills that allow you to create something new, different and bold. Integrity : Art helps strengthen problem solving and critical thinking skill in order to develop artistic integrity in artwork. Respect: Art can be used as a bridge to effectively communicate ideas with others. Perseverance: Art is always changing. There always new skills, new styles and new material to learn. Some material and projects will be challenging but pushing through will allow you to keep learning and growing as an artist. Confidence: As you grow as an artist and learn to share and speak about you artwork with others you will find your confidence will also continue to grow.

Freshmen year During Freshman year students will develop a strong foundation in the visual

Freshmen year During Freshman year students will develop a strong foundation in the visual arts. Students will learn basic art concepts as well as the technical skills needed to draw & paint realistic subjects.

Sophomore Year During sophomore year students will learn how to use skills learned in

Sophomore Year During sophomore year students will learn how to use skills learned in the foundation class to further create visually appealing compositions using the principles of art and design. Students will also explore/experiment in creating various forms of 2 -dimensional artwork. (Printmaking, collage, stencil etc. )

Junior Year During first semester of junior year students will learn skills/concepts of 3

Junior Year During first semester of junior year students will learn skills/concepts of 3 D design/sculpture. Students will experiment using a wide range of non-traditional art materials to create 3 D artworks. During second semester of Junior year students will learn concepts and skills in clay/ceramics. Students will learn the processes/procedure of this artform in order to create their own clay artwork.

Senior Year Senior year will be in the format of independent study. Students will

Senior Year Senior year will be in the format of independent study. Students will use this independent study to form a body of work showcasing mastery in a chosen medium. This body of work will follow a theme chosen by the student/artist that reflects his/her artist statement. Students will receive credit for this course upon the completion of a digital portfolio and a senior art exhibition showcasing artwork to the Aug prep community. In addition to independent study students will also have designated classes where they will learn basic photography and editing software skills that will be used in the creation of the digital portfolio.

Is art the major for you? We welcome students who: ● ● Have an interest in fine art and would like to learn more about it. Want to continue developing skills as an artist. Enjoy learning about the history of art. Are interested in a career in art; painter, sculptor, graphic designer, architect, photographer, fashion designer, art museum curator, etc. ● Are hard working and understand that this is a rigorous high school art curriculum that is intended to give you a strong foundation in art. This art curriculum is not free time or a course in arts & crafts. - The expectation is that you will use all of the skills learned throughout your art career at Aug Prep to build a digital portfolio of artwork that represents you as an artist. The physical artwork will be showcased/presented in a senior art exhibition.
