What’s financial aid? Financial aid is money that one can obtain to be able

What’s financial aid? Financial aid is money that one can obtain to be able to pay for college expenses. It can be used for paying tuition, books, laptops, rent, groceries… FAFSA =/= Financial Aid You apply for most financial aid. This includes an application process or writing an essay. FAFSA is one application. CADAA is another application. To be awarded financial aid, you must show some sort of financial need. Everything related to financial aid will be in the STUDENTS NAME.

US Citizen, permanent resident, or eligible noncitizen? ● ● You are eligible to do the FAFSA application This is federal and state money (Pell, loans, Cal, CCPG) You will need your SSN to create an ID and do the app Mixed status families do the FAFSA Are you a Dreamer, DACAmented, or undocumented? ● ● ● You are eligible to do the CA Dream Act application This is state money (Cal, CCPG) You DO NOT need an SSN to complete this app Either way, most students have some sort of means to apply for financial aid. If you don’t know application you are eligible to complete, ask the Financial Aid office to see what steps you can take to start your financial aid process!

Expected Family Contribution (EFC) EFC is what the government uses to see how much a student’s family can contribute to their college expenses. (The same no matter what state) For qualification purposes, the lower the EFC, the more likely a student will qualify for more financial aid. Parent income, parent assets, student income, number in household, number in college, etc… These all play a part in calculating your EFC. Government has their formula.
