Project Overview The title of my project will be called Neck of The Woods. In my final project, I am looking to make a 3 D game/ environment/ experience using the Unreal Engine. I intend to make my project based on the perspective of a variety of animals and the environments that they live in. The gameplay will revolve around what they do to survive, although there will be no actual survival aspects to the game, it will be more like a point and click adventure, open-world style, with a twist to how they survive. All of my ideas are going to be based on the possibility of VR compatibility. My end point will be one playable level in the game. You will be in first-person view, adventuring through a forest through the perspective of a small woodland animal. You will be able to go anywhere around the level within reason, so there is no set path that you have to stick to. With this said, you will have to find something to progress onto the next level and complete some small puzzles to gain the item. Therefore, there will be collectible items, unlockable objects and trigger points (an inadvertent action which causes a necessary action for the game to continue) throughout this game which keeps it a little more interesting than just walking through a forest.
Time Scale I am giving myself 8 weeks to develop one level of this game. This is including research, gathering of ideas, development and building.

Research Continued Some more research that I will be conducting will be using different medias. I am going to be looking into: • Animal documentaries, such as David Attenborough 60 Years in the Wild, Planet Earth, Life of Mammals and Natural World. • Animal based survival games such as, Wild, Shelter 1 and 2, Badger Kingdom and Animal Survival. • Nature games or heavily environmental like, Just Cause 2, Farcry Primal and Skyrim.
Development My idea first developed when I knew I wanted to make a game, but I had to think of what I would be interested in and also what other people would be interested in as well. I know I love animals and so do other people, so I thought of an Animal Survival game/ experience. I feel this would also be a great possibility for VR, which is ever growing more and more popular. My audience will be people looking for either a really nice calm VR experience or a casual point and click style game. There will be no age restrictions as their will be no violence, gore or sexual scenes within this project. Younger children may need a guardian to help with the puzzles. The only thing that would restrict the gameplay is the person themselves, as this is an open world style game and it will be up to them to adventure through it.
Process Well firstly I have done a lot of research into the animal kingdom and similar games and documentaries. I will be building the 3 D game in UE 4 using the free materials off of their market place. I am going to start by designing my level on Photoshop in multiple layouts. I will do a birds eye view of the whole map, an animal perspective of a location and also various angles across the map (possibly showing off some important/ scenic places). After I have designed everything I will then start to build it in UE 4. I am going to start with the ground and work my way up adding in all the trees, bushes, rocks, lighting, sounds etc. While my project is being made I am going to be managing it by using a sort of check list/ timescale schedule. I will be doing this so I can keep on track with what I want to achieve by the end of each week.
Exhibition The ways I would like to present my work at the exhibition are as follows, I would like a computer with the level playable so people can give it a try. I would also like to record my walkthrough of the game and have it playing on a screen, so then if people don’t want to play it they can watch it being played on a separate screen. I would also like to have boards or pages with my concept work which will show I designed the game and my theory behind it.
