FINAL MAJOR PROJECT IDEAS BY SOPHIE DORS IDEA
FINAL MAJOR PROJECT IDEAS BY SOPHIE DORS
IDEA ONE
WHAT MAKES A SMILE? – VOICEOVER VIDEO My main idea that I’ve always wanted to create is a simple topic but as I want to make it into a video with a voice over it will be harder to make. As ill have to plan the image and sound separately then when I’m editing make sure both of them line up, I think this will be the hardest part. I’m passionate about looking into “What makes a smile? ” as its open the video could make the viewer question the idea or it could give a definitive answer or even be rhetorical. The main thing I want to do is make the viewer question everything they see and hear, I want it to have an impact. By breaking the video into segments it means ill can do it sections which don’t need to be coherent or filmed on one day as it will be a montage it will be okay to have leaps in time. The only part that needs to be the same throughout will be the voice over which I need to do all in one so there's no odd parts that make no sense.
IS THIS IDEA VIABLE? With the right planning and doing the filming in little chunks spread over the next five weeks it will give me plenty of time to edit it all together and get it to a professional standard. I already know that ill have to get loads of different piece of footage so that there will be enough time for me to speak over it. The subjects that im looking at are all in my life anyways so its not like ill have to go to a specific area. As I live with my family and dog plus all my friends are at college and ill be here anyways. With my friends ill ask them to try and take raw video so I can place it in as they are media students. I have all the software and cameras I need to use are at college for me to use
SWOT Strengths Weaknesses Filming will be easy to do as the people and places I want to feature are close to me My friends will be able to put there input into my work as well as they will be in it Its voiceover and I’m good at creating and planning them It’s a latitudinal project I've done this style of film before and its come out well and I've enjoyed doing it It will be a lot of editing with small clips that are coming from multiple files Lots of planning is needed
SWOT Opportunities I will be creating content that I want to create It will be involving my family who will be helping me create the best content I can make I have tutors that will help me Threats Because I’m so passionate about the subject I might get carried away and over complicate the video by adding too many segments
WHAT DO MY PEERS SAY? What would you prefer a Voiceover video or Podcast? Do documentaries interest you? Voiceover Podcast Neither Yes No Sometimes
IDEA TWO
TEENAGE TROUBLES - PODCAST For my second idea I was thinking about doing a podcast focusing on issues that effect people in my age range from fourteen too nineteen years old. It seems like only people over a thirty get a voice that’s actually heard in the parliament young people get over looked and it would be nice to hear other peoples ideas. I’ve never really seen politics being discussed by younger people and it would be interesting to see what they had to say and just gather general information on topics such as travel costs, education facilities and the age that people can vote at. Before we have created radio podcasts but I have never made a feature length one so that would be harder to create but I do know how to use the software and have a blog giving instructions on how to use it
IS THIS IDEA VIABLE? For this idea I would need to get a audio recording room which I would need to book, a range of people from different ages with contrasting opinions and a plan of questions to ask my guests, at least five people. I will need to do some research on some radio podcast. Maybe I need to listen and review a few to get an idea of the market as I have a small amount of knowledge on this topic.
SWOT Strengths Weaknesses Not many people are doing a podcast for their final major project I don’t have lots of knowledge using the audio editor Its an original idea I’m not passionate about politics Bringing an new modern view on politics I have to do lots of research on other podcasts like it e. g. bbc radio one shows It might be hard to book a audio recording room in college It doesn’t showcase all my skills
SWOT Opportunities Using a new facility in Canterbury College I will be learning a new skill that I can put in my portfolio which will look good Threats As I have no real experience it wont look professional enough It wont be enough work to get a distinction in my final major project It’s a controversial subject
WHAT DO MY PEERS SAY? What idea should I do/ is more interesting? What makes a smile? Teenage trouble
CONCLUSION After my research I have decided that my audience would like to see the voiceover video on “What makes a smile? ” as its more of an exciting engaging subject that I can include multiple people in and it will allow me to showcase the skills I have learnt over the past few months. Now I know what I want to do, I can really start planning on the video and develop my basic plan to get a full look on what I can create for my final major project.
