FILM FESTIVAL VENUE AND CATERING An Umbrella Festival
FILM FESTIVAL
VENUE AND CATERING
‘An Umbrella Festival’ ■ In partnership or with a patron from the East End Film Festival! ■ We will add a location – http: //www. omearalondon. com/ ■ Possible dates between the 11 th and 29 th April, though the focus will be a pop up event on Thursday 19 th at Mari’s Location (After our deadline so yay drinks!)
Catering ■ As the event will be held at Omeara London, bars and food is located all around the premises so everyone will be able to leave and re-enter the exhibit as they please to get refreshments! ■ Drink will be allowed, with relevant ID for anyone who looks under 25! So please remember this if you want to celebrate having your film(s) in the East End Film Festival and finishing your deadline the day prior!
An open mic night ■ After the pop up event we would like to collaborate with fellow students and have a mic night where music is played, be it a dj or live music. ■ Art will be displayed around the event, not an event just for film students, it can be for everyone!
MARKETING
Outreach ■ Social media being the main outreach programme for the programmes but we could also include: ■ Campus Booths, run on Stratford and Docklands campus close to date in order to promote event. ■ Posters and flyers
Minimalist Poster Look ■ Included on UEL campus, transit, library and sports dock.
Social Media ■ Instagram/Facebook ■ Used to release miniature trailers. ■ Catalogue the films/ used as a guide or programme to what the event will entail. ■ Snapchat ■ Run mainly for the event space itself, could possibly get a filter for the location event.
Charity ■ Suggestion to have the event run for a charity awareness, where it is optional to donate for entry to raise money, or possibly could include some form of food bank/food drive for entry.
PROGRAMMING AND SHOWREEL
Film Selection Process ■ Films that are submitted will be reviewed by the film selection committee ■ In order to be selected for the festival, a majority of the committee must vote in favour of the film being chosen ■ The selected film will be sent to the manager of the committee and he will have a say on whether it moves onto the next round of selection processes ■ Last, after the first selection period, if more films need to be cut in order to fit our allotted time at the venue, a second voting period will be undertaken by the selection committee and again, a majority must find in favour of the film being chosen
Types of Films ■ We are pulling from our first year projects as well as from our Cinematics and History/Memory projects ■ The amount of films we choose overall will be determined by the length of time we have at our chosen venue
Including Outside Films ■ We are still deliberating whether we want to include films from outside sources (such as Third Year students, MA students and films from students that are known to those participating in the festival) ■ However, if we do include a number of films from outside the student circle of second year UEL students, they will be shown on a separate screen, to prevent unfair comparisons between one another
Internal Competitions ■ The talk of hosting a competition between films and filmmakers has been positive, though a separate committee will have to be established in order to decide categories and select nominees/winners ■ If we include films from outside our year group, a second competition would take place for those films specifically so as to make it fair on all parties ■ We would prefer to have something physical to give winners too, but would need categories, number of nominees per-category and winners to all be selected before making any final decisions on the matter
Showreel ■ After selecting all of the final films that will be showcased at the festival, the showreel of all films will be worked on and produced as quickly and efficiently as possible ■ The showreel team will be working closely with the advertising team in order to make sure that both teams are happy with the final product
