Definition • Film distributors are independent companies that act as the final agent between a film production company and a film exhibitor to the end of securing placement of the producer’s film.
Film Distribution Process The producer and company come to an agreement about obtaining film rights. Once this has been done the films script has to be written and the confirmation of finance, cast and crew must be achieved. Photography must then take place following moths of filming and production. A release strategy and date is then produced. Cinemas then have to be shown the product before agreeing to distribute. The campaign of the film should now start to attract the specific target audience almost instantly. A certificate as well as film print outs and disks are delivered to cinemas before its release. Depending on the demand of the film, the run can go on longer than anticipated. After the cinemas have stopped running the film, it is released onto different media forms such as DVD, television and download.
Film 4 • I believe that Film 4 would distribute my film as I believe they would agree that my film relates to a mass amount of films they have produced themselves so it would attract the same massive audience that their films do with the same media attention.
