Early Life/ Family Fidel was born and raised in Biran, Cuba by Ángel Castro y Argiz and Lina Ruz González. While growing up, Him and his six siblings spent most of their time working on their family’s sugar cane plantation. After graduating from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School and studying law at the University of Havanna, he married Mirt Diaz-Balart had his first son. They were soon divorced and he later remarried to Dalia Soto. They had five kids together and would remain married until his death in 2016.
Military Background After graduating from law school, in 1947 Castro joined a rebellion in The Dominican Republic against dictator Rafael Trujillo. Following this he traveled to columbia to further indulge his riotous nature. During his adult years he married, had a child, learned of Karl Marx, and was removed from places of politcal power by another coup ironically by F. Batista. Fidel fought, was captured, was released, fought more, lost, escaped, returned to fight some more, and continued until eventual success in 1959. Out of the pan, and into the fire the Cuban people went.
Power 1959 -2008 Gained? - After being inspired by the ideas of Marxism, Fidel led the communist revolution against authoritarian President Fulgencio in 1959 and was established as Prime Minister. He later became president in 1976.
