FHSAA SCOREKEEPING and Libero Tracking 2016/2017 Season Updated by Tallahassee Volleyball Officials Association in 2016 Originally prepared by Holly Walker (NEFLVBOA) 2007 -08, updated by Laurie Obreza (BESOA) for the 2010 FHSAA Officials Leadership Conference.

Scorekeeper Pre-Match Responsibilities n n Report 20 minutes before match time Complete the heading section of the score sheet n n n Record the date, site and time of the match Record home and visiting teams Record serving team after coaches and captains meeting Receive team rosters 10 minutes before start of match Receive and record line-ups 2 minutes before end of warm-ups and 1 min before subsequent games n n n Record starting line-ups for both teams in service order Record libero for each team on the score sheet Notify the 2 nd Referee if Captain or libero are noted on a submitted line-up.

Scorekeeper Match Responsibilities Recording What Happens n Record the result of each serve or point Actual point awarded in the line score and corresponding point slashed in running score n Box around all rally points ; Triangle around libero points n - ] (End of rally) n R (Replay) n RS (re-serve) n P 1 (P for penalty, followed by the actual point awarded) Record time-outs in both the line score and in the time-out section: T for requesting team or Tx for opponent time-out. Record subs in both the line score and team line-up. n S or Sx followed by number entering for player replaced. n Libero Tracker should also record substitutions Record comments (for all penalties, exceptional substitutions) Change pen colors after teams have rotated though the service order Record the final score for each game n n n

Other Game Responsibilities n Verify the serving order when requested by the 2 nd Referee n n n Usually after a coach or captain makes a request to the 2 nd Referee REMEMBER: coaches and captains may talk to the Referees, but should not address you. You can direct their request to the 2 nd Referee Notify 2 nd Referee of discrepancies in the score Notify 2 nd Referee when the 15 th, 16 th, 17 th, and 18 th substitutions are used by a team – if necessary notify of 19 th substitution. Notify 2 nd Referee of improper server verbally at the time of serve (not before they serve). Do NOT to sound the horn to stop play but sound if necessary at the end of the play. Notify 2 nd Referee of illegal substitutions (hopefully you will notice prior to sub entry, if notify during the next

Scorekeeper’s Re-Cap n n n 20 minutes before match, start time & fill in all heading information. Enter the starting line-up & libero for each team in proper serving order. Record every play or action n n Result of a serve n Record Point in player’s (server’s) scoring section corresponding to the point running point n Slash (or put a Triangle if Libero served) the point in the running score n Loss of Rally (--|) Put a box around the running score & around the point in the line score of the next server Substitution: (S or Sx #entering/#leaving) & slash team substitution number Time out (T or Tx in line score); also in box of team taking time out (score of team taking To - opponent score at the time of timeout). The “Comment Section” The scorekeeper records all unusual information that awards points when no serve takes place and information that could impact the penalty applied and player eligibility: n n n Warnings : Yellow Card ( Team, Y#_, Score of offending teamopponent score) Penalties: Red Card (Team, R#_, Score of offending/opponent) Uniform/Equipment Violations = Unnecessary Delay (Team, UD #_, Score of offending team – opponent Score) Unconscious Players (“unconscious player Team , #_”) Exceptional Substitutions (“Team, Ex sub, #7 / #2: That player is out for the SET).

Libero Tracker Responsibilities n n n Sit next to the scorekeeper Notify the 2 nd Referee when a libero is not designated for a game by on the line-up sheet prior to game start time Communicate with the scorekeeper for all substitutions and libero replacements Record all substitutions and libero replacements on the libero tracking sheet Tell 2 nd Referee if the libero is replaced by an incorrect player or an undesignated libero enters the game Notify 2 nd Referee if the libero does not stay out of the game for one rally between replacements (unless the libero is the next server)

Suggestions n Teams will be changing sides of the court for sets 2 through 4 (matches that are best 3 out of 5), so as you set up the scoresheet for the second, third, and fourth [if necessary] sets, list the teams on the left side and the right side as they would appear on the court. n If a match goes to a deciding set, a second coin toss is conducted.
