FFI principles recap… • FFI is additional to a school’s: • Core education funding (AWPU) – Element 1 • Formula funding (Notional Inclusion Budget) – Element 2 • FFI is not attached to EHC Plans • FFI and EHC assessment have separate processes and timescales • FFI allows schools to be flexible in supporting all pupils with SEN • FFI identifies “High Needs” pupils • Above £ 6000 additional support

E band pragmatics Definition of Pragmatics “Pragmatics is a subfield of linguistics and semiotics that studies the ways in which context contributes to meaning. Pragmatics encompasses speech act theory, conversational implicature, talk in interaction and other approaches to language behaviour in philosophy, sociology, linguistics and anthropology. [1]“ • • E band high needs – Autism / ASC / Asperger’s Syndrome Recommendation – AET training – STARS Each pupil is unique E band criteria – Criteria descriptor based but also on types of support

E band pragmatics process • Identify pupils who meet the E band criteria • Collate information from the pupil’s SEN file in school • Complete the E band pragmatics form • Observations – two per descriptor • Details of provision • Evidence of a graduated response • Pupil passport • SLT advice/reports • Scan as one document and upload via Synergy Gateway Use the file path name ending “FFI - E band pragmatics funding request 2017 -18” attaching to a pupil’ record • Add the names to the E band IPL online
Good example • Two observations per descriptor • Clear link between ticked criteria descriptor and observation • Attached evidence • Relevant professionals advice/report • Pupil passport/profile • Individualised timetable • Current IEP or equivalent • Latest SLT report • Provision map • Request will provide a sense of the “Assess, Plan, Do Review” process • Link between need, support/actions and impact
E band SLI E band has been separated into two categories: • Specific Language Impairments (SLI) “SLI is a very broad category, with some children having mild problems that are short-lived. Others have severe and persistent difficulties with both understanding and talking. ” (ICAN. org) • Specific Speech Impairment (SSI) SSI is a type of SLI and can be described as a Phonological/Speech disorder or Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia. Key considerations • SLI and SSI are not associated with other needs, such as developmental delay, cerebral palsy, sensory impairment or autistic spectrum disorders. • Pupils with identified SLI or SSI need should be on the NHS SLI pathway (Specific pathway)

Key notes • • E band pupils should be pupils with complex communication needs Focus on specialist support as well as clinically assessed need SLI pupils should be on the SLI pathway New forms – available on Leeds Education hub or Synergy portal Observations should be specific not general Remember to attach requested supporting information You can submit Summer term 2 if you are able to
