Differences Europe Knights gained land from their lord from payment of protection/ military service, but means they also had control of the serfs working that land. Japan No one had occupancy of land, instead the daimyo used a portion of their income from taxing peasants to pay the samurai a salary usually paid in rice.

Similarities Europe -In Europe, feudalism had knights that were their protectors. - knights could not be women. knights were the 3 rd ranked in the hierarchy. and had the code of chivalry. Japanese feudalism had Samurais that were protectors-Samurais could also be women. Samurais were 2 nd highest in the hierarchy. Had the code of Bushido to live by. - Every lord had a loyal samurai.
