Who was a Samurai? * Served and protected the Daimyo, in exchange for land. * Upheld a strict moral obligation to the Daimyo, known as Bushido * Spent most if not all of their lives preparing for war * Used Horses on the battlefield to increase mobility * Wore light armor, some iron but mostly leather, no face masks. * Fought with a two-handed sword, the Katana * Huge focus on honor – would rather take their own life than be imprisoned
Who was a Knight? Served and protected a lord, in exchange for land Obeyed his lord based on an agreement called the Feudal Contract Began training for combat at a very young age Rode into battle on horses, wearing full suits of metal armor. They were not able to move easily, but were well protected Would use lances, shields and swords in battle
