Function of the Female Reproductive system • to produce eggs and to provide a place to support and nourish a developing human.

How it works • Ovaries: female reproductive organs that produce eggs and hormones estrogen and progesterone. • All of the eggs a female will ever have are already formed in her ovaries when she is born. • Estrogen & Progesterone prepare body for pregnancy
How it works • vagina is reproductive organ that connects the outside to the uterus, receives sperm, & is part of the birth canal • urethra carries urine out of the body from the bladder.
How it works • The uterus is the organ that provides a place to support a developing human. • Cervix is where the uterus meets the vagina • Eggs travel from the ovaries to the uterus through the fallopian tubes.

Menstrual Cycle • FSH & LH: Released from a gland in the brain to the ovaries to produce and release an egg = Ovulation. • Before ovulation an egg is called a Primary Follicle, produce progesterone & estrogen • Progesterone & estrogen causes the uterine line to thicken
Menstrual Cycle • Menstruation is the breakdown and discharge of the uterine lining out of the vagina. • occurs if an egg is not fertilized. • Menstruation lasts 3 to 7 days. • The average menstrual cycle lasts 28 days. • Ovulation usually occurs on the 14 th day. Can vary.
