What is Female circumcision? • It is the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia for no medical reasons. • Female genital mutilation (F. G. M) is done anywhere from the day after birth to puberty.

Where its done • F. G. M was estimated in 2013 to be the most common in 27 countries in Africa. • 133 million females went through the immense pain in the countries as of 2014.

How and why its done • F. G. M is typically carried out by a traditional circumciser blade, used to cut out the female genitalia. • F. G. M is thought to ensure virginity before marriage and fidelity afterwards.

Its effects Physical F. G. M causes severe pain and urinary problems. Its pain leads to shock and death. It causes excessive bleeding It causes H. I. V infections Emotional “I wanted to die at that time- I had given up on life” (Rev. 443 1997). Female circumcision causes girls to feel suicidal, preferring their own death over it. Others go to as far as therapy with the amount of depression they have. Circumcised women significantly reported to have expressed lower selfesteem compared to uncircumcised women (IFE Physchologl. A: 2003 11 (1): 123 -130). The feeling of sadness overcomes the females, they become ashamed to even look or touch themselves. . Lastly is betrayal. Women tend to feel betrayed at the thought of their own parents circumcising them and leaving them with such withering pain.

All in all, • F. G. M is a hidden nature of crime. Its procedures intentionally alter or cause injury to the female genital organs for no medical reasons. Which is why female circumcision should be abolished.
