Federation History Why and how did Australia become
Federation History
• • • Why and how did Australia become a nation? At first the British still owned all the major laws in there own parliament which made the law in Australia. In 1900 WA did not believe that federation was good for the colony so in May, The Commonwealth of Australia was passed by the British Parliament. On the first of January 1901 all the colonies of NSW, SA, VIC, QLD and TAS all came together to be named as ‘The Commonwealth of Australia’
Who were the people that came to Australia? • This may sound terrible but our fellow Aussies were very racist it didn’t like other people from all over the world to live here and it still happens to this day for the poor refugees. • Well these are just a few of people that came to Australia from there home country: Japan, England, Canada.
How did Australian society change during this period of time? 18901915 • In around about 1863 to 1890 Australia only had 6 states the was no Northern Territory, it was just all South Australia. Also now each colony was aloud to elect there own Government. • Then the people of Australia had a vote and they decided “YES we can have a 7 th state. ” • At this period of time instead of ACT we had FCT which stands for Federal Capital
Sir Henry Parkes • He was born on the 27 th of May 1815 in Warwickshire, England. • On the 15 th of August 1853 Parkes made his first speech which was successful and went straight through to ‘Colonial Parliament’ and became even more successful in the later years. • As known to many people in Australia his portrait is now on the five dollar note.
