Specific Policy Changes • All Type A & Type B EFB application names, general function performed, and version must be listed in the operator’s Program Catalogue. Federal Aviation Administration 3
Specific Policy Changes • Program Catalogue supports current configuration management. • Type A applications do not require formal authorization by FAA PIs. – Protection for pilots regarding 14 CFR § 121. 542(d) • Type B EFB may require formal authorization if – new to operator; or – require significant changes to flightcrew training or procedures. Specific Policy Changes • Operational demonstration testing or temporary evaluation periods will be indicated via Opspec A 061 authorization. Federal Aviation Administration 5
Specific Policy Changes • A 025 – If the certificate holder/program manager has Op. Spec/MSpec/LOA A 025 issued for electronic recordkeeping, signatures, or electronic manual systems, without the use of an EFB, it is not necessary to reissue that operator’s Op. Spec/MSpec/LOA A 025. • A 009 – If the certificate holder/program manager uses the same source(s) listed in Op. Spec/MSpec/LOA A 009 for airport aeronautical data on an EFB, it is not necessary to reissue that operator’s Op. Spec/MSpec/LOA A 009. If aeronautical data on an EFB is not referenced in A 009, then A 009 should be amended to reflect the data source and distribution method. Federal Aviation Administration 6
Specific Policy Changes • A 010 – A certificate holder/program manager obtains Op. Spec/MSpec A 010, Aviation Weather Information, to authorize use of specific sources for obtaining weather reports and forecasts for the purpose of controlling flight movements (operations). If the certificate holder/program manager uses the same source(s) listed in Op. Spec/MSpec A 010 for weather functions on an EFB, it is not necessary to reissue that operator’s Op. Spec/MSpec A 010. Viewing weather and aeronautical information on an EFB requires additional authorization for use via Op. Spec/MSpec A 061. Federal Aviation Administration 7
