Feature Articles are usually longer than News Reports and are written about a range of topics including: • Society • Individuals • Health • The Environment • Food • Sport • Politics • Economics • Entertainment • Current Issues
CHARACTERISTICS OF A FEATURE ARTICLE • A catchy headline is essential • Feature articles generally include a short summary. This provides the reader with information about the content of the text. It is known as the ‘Write off’. • Feature articles include a by-line. This states the name of the writer. This is often part of the ‘Write off/ Stand first’ • An image - photograph , graphics, illustration or cartoon • Formal or informal language • Column format
• A Break. Out Box may support feature articles. • Several types and sizes of fonts are used. • Colour is often used in either the headline and/or photograph(s). • Timeless – usually acceptable for publication this week or next month.
