FASER – Integration Base plate installation & survey All the things to do before

FASER – Integration Base plate installation & survey All the things to do before grouting activity: § Baseplate installation (3 segments) § Baseplate bolting + 12 M 12 jack screws § Baseplate alignment by Camille & Franck § All in all… 1 day work § Nota: there are 4 hanging points (M 12) on segments (75 Kg maxi) FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

Base plate installation & survey FASER – Integration Injection hole for grouting Target +

Base plate installation & survey FASER – Integration Injection hole for grouting Target + M 12 jack screws Camille at work! FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

Base plate installation & survey 12 + 2 measured points Sort of scan over

Base plate installation & survey 12 + 2 measured points Sort of scan over the surface in the end Beam 1 and 2 for alignment / Lo. S 12 points with possibility of tuning in vertical Turned out to be quite fast! (< 2 hours) 12 points to be within 0. 2 mm flatness (target) FASER – Integration § § § FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

Base plate installation & survey FASER – Integration § Well within our 0, 2

Base plate installation & survey FASER – Integration § Well within our 0, 2 mm flatness for 12 points FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

FASER – Integration Base plate installation & survey 0. 5 mm here (OK) §

FASER – Integration Base plate installation & survey 0. 5 mm here (OK) § § § One target is moved over the surface by hand… Scan shows the overall shape Some points are well outside but what matters is close to resting points (12 points) FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

Base plate_GROUTING Grouting in a few steps (Analtoly, Dimitar, Johann, and Franck): § Unsuccessful

Base plate_GROUTING Grouting in a few steps (Analtoly, Dimitar, Johann, and Franck): § Unsuccessful first try out (grouting mixing quite delicate, lack of preparation? … due to restart after Covid 19 lockdown. . ) § Then separated tests on short scale mechanics (50 cm plates…) § After successful try outs, decided to go for final Grouting on the base plate FASER – Integration § Consistency of grout not acceptable. . FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020 Short scale

Base plate_GROUTING Several things before GROUTING § Sealing of the baseplate edges (wooden plate

Base plate_GROUTING Several things before GROUTING § Sealing of the baseplate edges (wooden plate + silicone) § Venting holes to ease the flowing and make sure it gets where it should… § Protect the thru holes (for targets and for some screws): by screws + flexible pipes § Protect the plate itself (plastic covering the full surface excluding the injection large holes § Loading of the area nearby the resting points (jack screws). . still to be defined!! § Mixing has to follow Anatoly’s rule… (to be documented soon) FASER – Integration § Mixing in steps (outside the area) FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

Base plate_GROUTING FASER – Integration § § § Only the middle hole was used

Base plate_GROUTING FASER – Integration § § § Only the middle hole was used for injection The others for visual inspection Every hole closed by Plexiglas plates Quite some pressure pushing things up (!!) Cannot get rid of such fluidity… Pouring down the grout (quite liquid) Steel pipe for grout injection (pushing down the fluid. . ) Have seen this part lifting up when pouring grout!! Need additional shim underneath the end of the plate FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020

Base plate_GROUTING FASER – Integration § § The full process within 2 hours Full

Base plate_GROUTING FASER – Integration § § The full process within 2 hours Full drying out after 1 week (to get final compressive strength) A very first cleaning was needed With better protection, no need next time Half an hour after… FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020 Half an hour after…

Base plate_GROUTING § § FASER – Integration § § § 1 week after: perfectly

Base plate_GROUTING § § FASER – Integration § § § 1 week after: perfectly solidified Sealing part removed to see the grout penetration and shrinkage Leading to improve the venting holes (number) Mechanical stability looks good BUT, survey showed deformations (lifting up? )…. Still to be analyzed Lack of penetration ? Or shrinkage? Perfect matching FASER, Integration, May, 04, 2020
