His early years Growing up, Neil would go to the local YMCA. To stay out of trouble, they had a camera so he picked it up and from there he never looked back.
Historical Context Neil Leifer's photos were important in history because he took photos of mainly African American athletes. Considering the time in history, there was a lot of segregation. The purpose of him choosing mostly African Americans is because he believed that no matter what color your skin, no matter where you're from, no matter who you are, you are greatness. He tried to tell people that through his photos.
His Art Neil’s photos were in both color and black and white they were also taken pretty close to the athletes in action.
