Charles Darwin 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. He is a well-known scientist. He was born at the beginning of the 19 th century, in 1809. As a boy, Charles collected all kinds of things, minerals, birds 'eggs, insects. After 3 years of study at Cambridge University he made a voyage round the world. During the 5 year voyage he studied many different kinds of plants and animals in all parts of the world. Little by little Darwin built up his famous theory. His theory of evolution opened a new period in the development of the science of biology, the Darwinian period. Charles Darwin died in 1882 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.

At school he was fond of nature, and often went along on trips through England Wiles. While travelling, he liked to draw ruined abbeys and castles. He was a master of water-colours. He was famous for the wonderful colours in his pictures. Most of them were landscapes and sea pictures. Joseph Turner died in 1851.

At school Tolkien was fond of languages, but not just modern languages – he also liked ancient languages. He spoke six ancient languages and even made up his own languages. At Oxford University he studied English language and literature. John R. R. Tolkien became an outstanding linguist. He became famous, when his books were published. He wrote several books “The Hobbit”, “The Lord of Rings”. In his books he describes a fairy-tales world, where Hobbits, magicians, elves and warriors live. John R. R. Tolkien died in 1973.

At school she was fond of theatre and often went to the New York's theatre. While watching the plays, she liked to dance and to sing songs. She was an outstanding actress. She was famous for the wonderful plays in the films. Marilyn Monroe died in 1962.
