Family Medicine in Scottsbluff Mitchell Chlopek
Regional West Medical Center • Over my 8 week rotation, I became familiar with many parts of the hospital. I spent most of my time in the clinic, but also spent time in the hospital, emergency department, and even the local nursing homes.
Housing and Food • I stayed at Inn Touch. It was a hotel-style room that was once a hospital but has since been converted into a living facility for students. Many students from a variety of healthcare professions were also staying there. It was about a 5 minute walk from the clinic. • I was given a meal card for free cafeteria meals for as many meals as I wished. Scottsbluff also had great local restaurants.
The Clinic • My schedule involved me rounding on hospital patients in the morning and then clinic from 8 am to 5 pm. I worked for the first 4 weeks with Dr. Lacey and for the last 3 weeks with Dr. Mosel. The staff in the clinic was great, made me feel at home, and helped with all my questions.
Free Time • I had a fair amount of free time to explore what activities Scottsbluff had to offer. The town has a few beautiful golf courses, a movie theater, bowling alley, mall, running and hiking trails, and many more things to do. Oregon Trail Days and the County Fair also took place while I was there.
Beautiful Scenery • The town has beautiful views and a number of good trails for hiking that allow you to overlook the town.
• I had a wonderful experience in Scottsbluff. I learned a lot about Family Medicine. I had fantastic preceptors who answered all of my questions and challenged me to become a better student. The wonderful people of Scottsbluff are what I will remember most. Dr. Lacey and Dr. Mosel were fantastic and the nurses and CNAs that help them are very caring and hard working. I will remember my time in Scottsbluff for the rest of my life.
