Fairdata IDA: Research Data Storage Service

IDA – Research Data Storage Service • Provides secure storage space for research data • Offered free of charge to Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences, research institutions, and research funded by the Academy of Finland • Possibility to share research data between a project group, members of the project group can be from different organizations • Meant for storing stable research data and handling and storing raw data o Saving, organising, sharing and storing data • Not suitable for sensitive data, not optimized for data under heavy usage 2

Starting the use of IDA service 1. Authenticate to My. CSC-service or create a CSC user account o https: //my. csc. fi/ 2. Create a new project 3. Apply for IDA storage space with an application form in the My. CSC -service 4. The application is processed by the IDA contact person of the organization o 4 The storage space can be taken into use as soon as the application has been processed

Using the IDA service • Log in to the service at ida. fairdata. fi • The service can be used with a browser UI or command line tools o Command line tools for working in the Staging area are available in Git. Hub o The UI is required for transfering files to or from the Frozen area • Storing in two separate areas: o The Staging area o The Frozen area 5

The Staging area: o Collecting and organizing research data before freezing it o Data can be added, organized, re-named and deleted o Data can be transferred to the Frozen area by pressing on the snowflake icon 6 The Frozen area: o Storing stable research data in an immutable state o Data cannot be edited, it can only be transferred to the Staging area or deleted o In this area the data is accessible to other Fairdata services
