Who needs to complete the FAFSA? • Every college student, every year! • Everybody applying to college • Parents do not complete the FAFSA • Students must have a Social Security Number • Parents do not need to have a Social Security Number 3

Why do I need to complete the FAFSA? Financial Aid – Will the government give you money? Selective Services All males 18 and older must register with the Selective Service System or you will not receive any federal aid. If you have not already registered, click No and follow on screen instructions to register. If you did not register and select Yes, your aid will not be processed. 13

How Many Schools Can you Add? You can select up to 10 colleges a day. If you want to add more colleges: 1. Select 10, wait two days 2. Log back in 3. Delete your original 10 4. Select up to ten more colleges 5. Click Submit 6. Repeat steps 1 -5 until you are done 16

Where do you plan on living? Either you are living on campus or off campus. 1. Select On Campus if you are dorming. 2. Select Off Campus if you are: • Living at home • Living on your own • Living anywhere except in a dorm on the college property 17

Do YOU, the student have any children? 1. Unless you have a child of your own, enter NO. 2. You, the Aviation High School student, is the dependent of your parent/guardian. 3. You are a dependent because your parent/guardian pays for more that 50% of your total living expenses. 18

Parent Tax Information Enter your parents/guardian tax information from 2017: 1. You will need your parents 1040 tax form 2. Copy the information directly from the 1040 form 3. We highly recommend using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool! 1. Data will be entered for you 2. You won’t be called in for verification 19

What are Parent Assets? Assets are money, homes and businesses. Real Estate: Houses, apartments, buildings that are owned by your parent/guardian, minus the value of any existing loans. For the final questions, do not include the value of any small businesses. 20
