Faculty Readiness Certification: Online Teaching FACULTY READINESS PROCESS FOR ONLINE CERTIFICATION as of: March 10, 2020 IF YOU ARE A FACULTY MEMBER WHO: AND YOU WANT TO TEACH A: THEN YOU ARE: Strongly encouraged to take advantage of Canvas trainings to understand the functional and architectural nuances of the new LMS. has completed hybrid training hybrid course has completed online training Required to meet with the Faculty Center to review best practices for teaching online and complete “Step 3” of the “Faculty Readiness Process for Online Certification” fully online course Required to complete the “Faculty Readiness Process for Online Certification. ” ** does not have prior Curry College certification in hybrid nor online training prescribed course was provided a “master” online course * AND: Faculty are encouraged, but not required, to periodically refresh their online “readiness” in consultation with their Department Chair and the Faculty Center. Required to complete Steps 1 and 2 of the “Faculty Readiness Process for Online Certification” process. Because a course has already been designed and prescribed, “Step 3” for faculty in this situation involves a meeting with the Faculty Center to complete certification. * Currently, this applies to programs that are all online (e. g. , RN-BS online, MS Accounting) ** Rare allowances can be made for provisional certification in consultation between the Chair or Director, Provost, and Faculty Center *** Any faculty member desiring to complete the “Faculty Readiness Certification: Online Teaching” will, upon completion, receive the standard $135. 00 stipend. **** Contact for the Faculty Center: facultycenter@curry. edu STEP 1: Canvas Readiness Online Course This is a self-paced online tutorial course to teach faculty the essential Canvas components needed to teach in an online format. This tutorial prepares faculty for the Canvas assessment (below), and is valuable for those new to elements of Canvas or as a refresher. Once Step 1 is completed, the faculty member should contact the Faculty Center. **** STEP 2: Canvas Assessment This is a Canvas assessment course for faculty to complete to demonstrate their knowledge of Canvas. Faculty will receive feedback from the Instructional Designer to either resubmit parts of the assessment, or to move on to the next step. Once Step 2 is completed, the faculty member should contact the Faculty Center. **** STEP 3: Online Learning Pedagogy Best Practices Meeting A meeting with the Instructional Designer will be scheduled according to faculty availability. Upon completion, faculty will demonstrate their understanding of Best Practices by designing their online course complete with content for evaluation before being issued a certificate. Chairs will then be able to use this artifact to assist in determining class assignments.
