Faculty Professional Development Plan: Nuts & Bolts Faculty Professional Growth Committee August 10, 2016
Four major types of faculty-driven PD Faculty I-Viz Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Independent Work – on campus Independent Work- off campus
Notes about faculty-driven PD Faculty can choose the type of faculty-driven PD that best meets their needs for professional growth. Individual faculty members can combine different types of faculty-driven PD within the same school year. Participation in faculty-driven PD activities during I-Viz time should be a personal choice for individual faculty members, so I-Viz time should not be used to schedule required meetings.
Requirements- Setting PD goals Each year, faculty write down their PD goals and plans for working towards those goals. Faculty meet within their Disciplines for discussion and peer review of goals. A copy of each faculty members’ goals is shared with the Dean for informational purposes.
Requirements- PD time Minimum of 12 hours of faculty-driven PD (in addition to Departmental and Administrative PD sessions). Can take place anytime during academic year. Up to 6 of the 12 hours can be completed in the summer prior to that school year.
Requirements- Reporting PD activities At the end of each PD session or activity, the faculty member briefly documents what has been accomplished via a Google Form. This will: Meet accreditation requirements Keep records for CEUs Be accessible by that faculty member as needed Be shared annually across the community to celebrate and acknowledge the diverse PD efforts of NCSSM faculty Note: Faculty facilitating I-Viz sessions and PLC team meetings will still need to print and submit the paper form with the signatures of faculty who attended their session.
Additional changes proposed- Interactions Sponsor faculty-driven PD “sharing” event in the spring Host monthly brown bag lunches Establish both indoor and outdoor faculty/staff lounge areas
