2 Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction! � -We will be learning all about oceans over the course of this week. � - I have found some of my favourite facts about our oceans. � - It is important to distinguish what is fact and what is opinion. � - Can you sort fact from opinion?

3 Fact or opinion? About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans.

4 Fact or opinion? The deepest part of the Pacific Ocean is deep enough to fit Mt Everest in.

5 Fact or opinion? Blue whales are the most majestic animal to be found in both the Atlantic and Pacific.

6 Fact or opinion? There is a creature called the immortal jellyfish; once it has reproduced it reverts back to childhood and this cycle can carry on indefinitely.

7 Fact or opinion? Sea turtles would be amazing to swim with as they can hold their breath for up to 2 hours.

8 Fact or opinion? The first deep sea divers were exploring over 300 years ago using boots weighted with lead.

9 Fact or opinion? There around 3 million ship wrecks on the ocean floor, which would be extremely fascinating to explore.

10 Fact or opinion? The colossal squid can reach a length of 10 meters. It has 2 long tentacles to grab victims as well as a beak to kill and grind down its prey.
