WHY DO WE USE MASKS? This is a skin cleansing preparation which may contain

WHY DO WE USE MASKS? This is a skin cleansing preparation which may contain a variety of different ingredients which will have deep cleansing, toning, nourishing or refreshing effect on the skin. You must be able to diagnose clients skin type in order to assess what mask will benefit client the most. The two types of mask you will use in class are setting and non-setting

SETTING MASKS These are applied in a thin layer over the skin and allowed

NON SETTING MASKS The range of non setting masks you will use in class

NON SETTING MASKS The range of non setting masks you will use in class will stay soft on application. This can feel more comfortable to the client. They will not tone the skin as effectively as setting masks. Examples of these include – Warm oil Natural masks – fruit, plant and herbal cream

CREAM MASKS These masks are popular in the salon as they will compliment the

ACTIVATING A CLAY MASK In order for your clay to work you must activate it with a liquid. These are active lotions which will turn the clay into a paste. There is a liquid to match every clay, these will be described on the following slides

DRY SKIN Clay – Magnesium carbonate or calamine if there is sensitivity. Liquid –

A client who has dry skin might not like the feel of a clay mask on their skin so add a few drops of grape seed oil to prevent the mask from drying out.

OILY SKIN Clay – If the oily skin is congested the ideal clay to

PARAFFIN WAX MASK Paraffin wax is heated to 37 degrees, it is then applied

You must always test the wax on the clients wrist to ensure the client is comfortable with the temperature It sets on contact, so you have to work quite quickly to apply. After 15 mins the mask is then removed. It is best suited to a dry skin.

Work on three different skin types Work within a suitable time limit (about 1 hour) Be presented well and have all your equipment.
