The Challenge! • Mr. Wilde wants to do an island camping trip with his class but he does not have a boat! You must design and build a boat that will carry your team and your camping supplies to the island.

Problem Solving • Through out the year there will be small group problem solving activities – Egg drop – Card boats – Bridge building – Object relocation
Fabrication Projects • Students will have the opportunity to design and build projects for their own use during the year.
Assessment • Contract system • To get 60% students must: – Qualify on 12 tools – Complete group project photo portfolio – Participate in all design challenges – Compete in design challenge
Project Photo Portfolio-Assessment There are several techniques for fixing paint chips, depending on how much time and effort you're willing to exert. The first step is to lightly sand the offended area to remove the sharp edges of the "crater. " Then use a finetipped brush to lightly dab paint into the chip. Since we were in a hurry, Santini used a heat lamp to encourage the paint to dry faster. For the backyard chip fixer, you can use a hair dryer. Ideally, allow the paint to air-dry for an hour or two between coats.
Assessment • The remainder of the mark will be based on student projects. • A contract will be written for the letter grade achieved when the project is completed. – Students are all required to make a shop improvement – Students may build projects for them selves

Today’s Challenge • Now fold the paper into an airplane • Your challenge is to build a paper airplane that goes the furthest • The only restriction is that you can only use the sheet provided – no other materials can be on the plane
