EYFS Reforms- Early Adopter Schools in Trafford • 7 Early Adopter Schools in Trafford are currently using the new EYFS documents (Statutory Framework, EYFS Profile Handbook, Development Matters) • Trafford network has been created to share practice • Going to look at skills progression using new documents- initial focus on writing Title Executive Member Workshop 3
Some initial thoughts from Early Adopter Schools in Trafford. Pros Cons • Split in Literacy makes it easier to set targets for learning • Understanding the world supports more outdoor learning • Clearer definition of subjects for skills progression throughout school • More emphasis on practitioner knowledge of Titlechildren • More time can be spent engaged with children in play (less recording) • Lack of technology • Difficult to use for assessment at the beginning of nursery • Removal of elements of space, shape and measure • Lack of ages and stages for tracking/assessment • Less experienced practitioners need a good underpinning knowledge of child development Executive Member Workshop 4
Moderation 2020/21 • As yet no EYFS Profile Handbook or Assessment and Reporting Arrangements for Early Years. • The Moderation cycle for 2020/21 will be based on last years cycle. • Moderators will remain the same for the schools they visited last year where possible Title Executive Member Workshop 5
GM Updates • Physical Development Pathway is due to be relaunched (early next year) • GM Pathways to talking has funded pilot NELI schools in Trafford • A GM working group has been set up looking at the EYFS reforms and there implications for practice- plans to engage directly with Julien Grenier • Supporting Language Development in Year 1 GM Webinar by Michelle Morris on Monday 14 th December 3. 30 -4. 15 pm (flyer will be emailed out) Title Executive Member Workshop 6
Trafford EYFS Profile 2019 Headlines • GLD remained at 75%, National 72% • Highest LA in GM and NW Vulnerable groups were: • FSM 55% (+5%pp), National 56% • SEND Support 30% (+10 pp), National 29% • EAL 69% (-4 pp) , National 67% • BME 69% (-4 pp), National 71% School readiness priority areas: • Partington 68% (+8 pp) Title • Clifford (Old Trafford) 63% (+5 pp) Executive Member Workshop 7
Some themes from 2019 data: Partington • • 82% of girls but only 58% of boys achieved GLD above national average of children achieving at least expected in number and self confidence and self awareness Longford • Poorest overall outcomes across Trafford • Only 53% of boys achieved GLD BME • The gap is wider at 9% • 7 ppt higher than the national gap, most evident in North of Title Trafford Executive Member Workshop 8
