EYFS Curriculum In Reception we are following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is available for you to view at www. gov. uk/early-years-foundation-stage. We deliver this through a cross curricular, topic based approach. At the beginning of each new topic we talk with the children about the topic to find out what they already know and what they would like learn about so that we can feed their ideas and interests into our planning.

Phonics From next week the children will be taught a ‘sound a day. ’ We will teach them how to say the sound as well as how to write it using whiteboards The children are also taught how to blend the sounds to read simple words. e. g. w. . . e. . . t wet f…o…g fog

Maths Every day the children will engage in a short whole class maths session.

Maths Every day the children will engage in a short whole class maths session. Throughout the week the children will also take part in teacher led small group activities.

Up and Busy Time Throughout the day we have Up and busy time where

Up and Busy Time Throughout the day we have Up and busy time where the children learn through self initiated play putting to good use what they have learnt in teacher led activities. This is when they choose where they would like to play. There are often activities set up in the different areas around the classroom which are linked to the topic and which work to embed the learning objectives that we have taught in the teacher led sessions.

Playtimes The Reception children will play together within their bubble on the top playground

Playtimes The Reception children will play together within their bubble on the top playground and different areas on the school field. When the weather is wet and windy the children will have indoor play. There is a box full of various activities to use in the classroom for the children to play with. They are fully supervised at all times. If a child is ill or hurt at any point during the day they will be attended to by a qualified first aider. A pink slip with details of the accident will be put in your child’s book bag. If your child has a toilet-related accident we can provide them with clean clothes but as we have limited supplies we ask that you send your child in with a change of clothes

Fruit And Milk At fruit and milk time you child will be offered a

Fruit And Milk At fruit and milk time you child will be offered a piece of fruit and milk. Once your child is 5 years old you will have to order and pay or the milk via the school office. Your child will be able to drink from his/her water bottle throughout the day. (please do not put juice in the water bottle.

Lunchtimes At lunch time the children all go down to the dining hall to eat their lunch all together. Children are given a choice of food, please ensure your child has seen the menu beforehand so they are ready at registration time They can also bring in a packed lunch if you do not wish them to have school dinners (no nuts please) The Reception team will monitor your children to check that they are eating enough of their lunch and will let you know if there any issues or concerns. Once the children have finished their meals they are able to go up to the playground to play with their friends, where they are fully supervised for the rest of the lunch hour by members of the Reception Team.

Wet Weather Wellies Please send in with your child a named pair of wellies

Wet Weather Wellies Please send in with your child a named pair of wellies and some waterproofs. This will ensure that your child will be able to go out to play in all weathers and join in with forest school activities.

PE lessons Reception will be having one PE session a week in the hall

PE lessons Reception will be having one PE session a week in the hall on Friday mornings. Please send your child in with a named PE kit in a bag that they can hang on their peg. In the Spring Term/Summer term their PE sessions will be outside. Please ensure your child has a pair of PE daps in their PE kit and practise dressing and undressing independently over half term.
