EYE-GAZE COMMUNICATION (Eye gaze human computer interface) Presented By: Namitha. P. T
Objectives : • Introduction • Users of the eye gaze system • Working • Applications • Advantages & Disadvantages • Future Enhancements • Conclusion
Introduction • The Eye gaze System is a communication and control system for people with complex physical disabilities. • The Eye gaze System is a directselect vision controlled communication and control system.
Users Of Eye Gaze System • This system is mainly developed for those who lack the use of their hands or voice • Its users are adults and children with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, brainstem strokes
Skills needed by the user • Good control of one eye • Adequate vision • Ability to maintain a position in front of the Eye gaze monitor • Mental abilities
Software & hardware requirements Software Programs. Main Menu . Games. Read Text. Teach. Settings Program Hardware. Desktop computer with OS. CD and floppy drives. 15" LCD Flat Panel Monitor. Adjustable monitor tray with camera bracket. High-speed infrared sensitive camera and lens
Working Of The Eye Gaze System
How does it work • The eye gaze system uses the pupil_ central corneal reflection method • Video camera mounted below the monitor , it takes 60 pictures per seconds • Infra-red • Reflected from eye • Sensor records where the reflected light is moving • computer calculate the persons gaze point
The Basic Eye Gaze Can • Calibrate v. Typewrite v. Read text v. Entertain with games v. Teach • Read Text • Entertain with games

Operational Environment • The Eye gaze System must be operated in an environment where there is limited of infrared light. • The System works best away from windows, and in a room lit with fluorescent or mercuryvapor lights, which are low in infrared.
Applications v. Neuroscience/Neuropsychology v. Vision Research v. Experimental Psychology v. Cognitive Psychology v. Psycholinguistics v. Psychiatry/Mental Health v. Transportation: Flight simulators/driving simulators v. Robotics-remote vision control v. Video and arcade games
Advantages • Eye movement is faster than other current input media • No training or particular coordination is required for normal users • Can determine where the user’s interest is focused automatically • Helpful for usability studies to understand users interact with their environment
Disadvantages • The equipment is expensive • Some users can't work with the equipment (for example if they wear contact lenses or have long eye lashes) • Calibrating the equipment takes time; this problem may resultantly cause the user to deviate from using the device.
Latest potable Eye Gaze system
Eye Max PCEYE
Intelli Gaze IG-30 • It is a sophisticated system with a high tracking rate and excellent working range. • It can accommodate rapid or involuntary head movements • Intelli Gaze uses the latest camera technology, very sophisticated image processing and calibration methods
Images Of Eye Gaze Systems
CONCLUSION Today, the human eye-gaze can be recorded by relatively unremarkable techniques. This thesis argues that it is possible to use the eye-gaze of a computer user in the interface to aid the control of the application.
