M. 1 - use non-standard and standard units to measure both vertical and horizontal length / 2. M. 2 - use a ruler to measure standard units
Skills: /Recall Prior Knowledge /Organize /Interpret /Analyze
Aim: /Eye Dissection Lab
Objective: /Students will be able to recognize the structures and functions of the sheep eye. /Students will be able to compare and contrast the Human eye and the Sheep eye. /Students will be able to make mathematical comparisons of structures of the eye.
Do Now: /Please obtain materials necessary for the dissection lab. /Refer to Lab Packet for required materials.
Structure/ Function Parts of the Eye /Sclera- the white portion of the eye. Found around the entire outer surface, gives structural strength. /Cornea- transparent tissue covering the front of the eye. /Iris- the colored part of the eye.
/Pupil- the circular hole in the front of the eye, behind the cornea and iris. Allows for light to enter the eye. /Aqueous Humor- fluid that fills the space between the cornea and iris. Maintains the shape of the cornea. /Retina- area at the back of the eye, collects light and sends message of the image to the optic nerve.
/Vitreous Humor- jelly-like fluid that fills the eye ball behind the iris. It gives the eye ball its shape and maintains a certain pressure inside the eye. /Optic Nerve- sends the message to the brain. /Tympatum- black, iridescent layer at the back of the eye. Found in animals, assists in night vision.
Homework /Complete the questions at the end of the lab. /Fill out data collected and complete the lab packet.
