It is intended to promote research skills, intellectual discovery and creativity and presents the students with an opportunity to engage in personal research into a topic of their own choice. 1 D. Criteria I, ”Formal Presentation” (0 -4) This criterion assesses the extent to which the layout, organization, appearance and formal elements of the essay consistently follow a standard format. The formal elements are: title page, table of contents, page numbers, illustrative material, quotations, documentation (including references, citations and bibliography) and appendices (if used). (Extended Essay Guide 2013) Thus, if all parts of the essay are included, and you have documented sources, you should have 4 marks!
